THE EVILS OF DOWRY SYSTEM



                                   The dowry system is social evil. Dowry means the money and materials that are given by the father of a girl at the time of marriage. This evil system practised through out the India.

               In the ancient time parents used to give presents as a token of love and affection. But now dowry has become a compulsory system of a marriage . A number of girl remain unmarried simply because their parents can not afford a dowry. Most marriages are not settled on the basis of the merits of a girl, but it is settled on how much dowry she will be able to bring with her, from her parent.

In case if she brings less money it leads to be a bad marital relation even to divorce. In some cases parent of a boy kill her, so that the boy can remarry bringing with a bride more dowry or she kills herself to put an end to her unhappy married life. The poor parent have to borrow money for the marriage of their daughters.

                Fortunately  there is some awakening among the people now. They are now bent on removing this evil from the society. Many boys have promised that they will not demand any dowry at the time of there marriage. It is high time that women should fight for their rights. They should refused the boys who demands dowry and inform the police about it. Lastly women should\must try to be economically independent. Mass awareness is a must for the eradication of this social evil.
