  Indian Polity(M.Laxmikanth) Free Notes 1-                                             Making of   the Constitution  It was in 1934 that the idea of a constituent assembly for India was put forward for the first time by M.N Roy( pioneer of communist movement in India). In 1935 ,INC(Indian National Congress), for the first time officially demanded a constituent assembly to frame the Constitution of India. The constituent assembly was constituted in November,1946 under the scheme formulated by the cabinet mission plan. Total strength of the constituent assembly was to be 389 . Of these ,296 seats were allotted to British India and 93 seats to princely states. The election to the Constitution assembly for 296 seats(allotted to British East Indian provinces) were held in july-august,1946.INC won 208 seats, Muslim League 73 seats and small groups and independen...

 Importance of 26th January in India- Republic Day is celebrated in India on 26th January every year. Republic day commemorates the spirit of independent and individual India.        The constitution of India came into force on January 26,1950. This day is referred in the Indian constitution as the "date of its commencement", and celebrate as the Republic Day.       This day is specifically chosen because of its historical importance. It was on this day in 1930 that Purna Swaraj day celebrated, following the resolution of Lahore Session of Indian National Congress.         With the commencement of the constitution, the Indian Independence Act of 1947 and the Government of India Act 1935 were repealed.
