GEOGRAPHY NOTES 1 (INDIA)
LOCATION-
INDIA is a large country lying entirely in the Northern Hemisphere.
---------> Latitude:- 8°4'N and 37°6'N.
---------> Longitude:- 68°7'E and 97°25'E.
**{LATITUDE:- Latitudes are imagery lines that are drawn on earth from W to E.
LONGITUDE :- Longitude are imagery lines that are drawn on earth from N to S.}
** Northernmost point of India is Indira Point( Jammu and Kashmir).
** Kanyakumari is at the Southern tip and is the southernmost point of the contiguous Indian Subcontinent.
** The southernmost point of Indian Union is Indira point in Andaman Nicobar Island which is an union territory.
** The easternmost point of India is Kibithu (Arunachal Pradesh).
** The westernmost point of India is Guhar Mota (Kachh,Gujrat).
The TROPIC OF CANCER (23.5 degrees) divided the country into two equal parts.
Below the Tropic of cancer is called :- Tropical Region
Above the Tropic of cancer is called :- Sub-Tropical Region.
** The Tropic of Cancer passes through 8 states of INDIA:- 1.Gujrat, 2.Rajasthan, 3.Madhya Pradesh, 4.Chattisgarh, 5.Jharkhand, 6.West Bengal, 7.Tripura, 8.Mizoram
- India is the 7th Largest Country in the World( 1st Russia).
- The land mass of India has an area of 3.28 million square km.
- Area wise it covers- 2.4% of Worlds total geographical area.
EXTENSION-
- India has land boundary of -15200km.
- Total length of coastal line including all is -7516.6 km.
- EAST to WEST extension is smaller than North To South extension.
N to S - 3214 km] Extension different is about 300 km.
Important points to remember-
** Gujrat to Arunachal Pradesh there is a time difference or time lag of 2 hrs.
